Modesto Throttlers History - 1949 to Present Day

Our club in it’s infancy was comprised of members with cars not capable of running 100mph, and the competing club for the area, the “Century Toppers” consisted of cars faster than 100mph.

This is not saying that our club was slow, but we did have to work a bit harder in proving the point when it came to racing. The photo below is a prime example of the club’s racing accomplishments.

In the beginning the club was part of the Valley Timing Association, a group of regional car clubs that assembled at the Kingdom Raceway in Lodi, CA. A hosting club would rotate turns in running the light tree, and timing equipment at the sanctioned drag races held there.

It is here that that the Throttler Car Club formed its roots. Stories are told by founding members of problems of engine detonation at the starting line as mixed racing fuels were added in the wrong proportions. Perhaps we could commend their trial, and error approach to perfecting the science of racing that has since become the tried, and true products now used in today’s racing applications.

Many changes have occurred with this club through all those years of development as our love of the classic car has evolved. Members have come, and gone from our club, and some of our founding members have since passed away. Yet our passion for preserving American Iron Automobiles lives on.
We still believe there is a place in the world for those who pursue the right to maintain their old car the way they want. We know the automobiles of today are for the most part not built as they were. The era of the single year body style is pretty much over as we resign ourselves to the fact the cars of today have all but fallen prey to the disposable society as well.

It is the history of this club to flaunt pride of the vehicle of the past in our annual car show, or parade our cars not only as a hobby, but also as a art form way of life.

For those who have come to know this club accept us for our charity to the Faith Home Ranch all these years, and realize we have survived because our mission has remained simple, and true to those who share our passion, and vision.

Our past has been kind to us in not allowing this club to perish as so many other have. The lessons of our past pave our racing revival for the future.

We acknowledge all the faithful supporters past, and present. We also encourage all who want to join us to do so with wisdom, and advise as we continue into the world beyond the here, and now.
